Why Choose PEAK® RV & Marine Antifreeze? - Doug's Tip of the Month

Not all RV and Marine Antifreezes are created equal. Formulations or blends can differ from one manufacturer to another.
- Most common RV Antifreeze are a blend of:
- Water
- Ethanol
- PG - Propylene Glycol
- Glycerin
- Quality RV Antifreeze will be only a blend of:
- Water
- PG – propylene glycol
- No Ethanol in the blend
Due to continued price increases over the past several years in Propylene Glycol, a substitute or less expensive filler such as Ethanol was being used by most manufactures in their blends of RV and Marine Antifreezes.
Ethanol, however, can have some negative effects on Marine and RV seal material, plumbing and pipes as well as a higher toxicity level than that of propylene glycol. Seals material, plumbing and pipes of both RV and/or Marine can be dried or even deteriorated from the inside out from the effects of Ethanol!
No public announcements were made advising consumers of the blend changes or the effects it could have. Another aspect of the negative effects of Ethanol is the fact that it can significantly increase the products flammability. It is a much safer choice, with better protection, less flammable and less toxicity when using a quality RV Antifreeze such as Peak® RV and Marine Antifreeze with a blend of just Water and PG - Propylene Glycol.
